“We Interrupt Winter” campaign crowns spring the perfect time for ferry travel

The Lake Express Ferry was on the cusp of accepting reservations for its fourth season as Midwesterners were itching for spring. Buzz Monkeys capitalized on winter drudgery by launching “We Interrupt Winter to Bring You Spring.”

Armed with 10,000 pink carnations and playful info cards, volunteers in Milwaukee and Grand Rapids braved frigid temperatures to spread cheer of the coming spring travel season throughout the cities’ downtowns, causing a word-of-mouth sensation.

Tenacious media relations resulted in a morning TV segment; on-air mentions on nearly every major TV station; two radio interviews; and nearly a dozen print and online hits, including the Chicago Tribune and Grand Rapids Press. As a result, the Ferry reported a significant increase in reservations in general, including a spike for April and May.
