YMCA

smart® car raffle puts new spin on Strong Kids Campaign fundraiser

In early Spring 2008, the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee received a generous donation from Bergstrom Automotive: the funky and spunky smart® car. In celebration of its 150th anniversary, the YMCA turned to Buzz Monkeys to help plan a unique fundraiser for the Strong Kids Campaign.

Buzz Monkeys collaborated with Mindspike Design to first create a tag line that combined the theme of the YMCA’s already realized mission and the eco-friendliness of the smart® car. “Spirit. Mind. Body. Planet.” and “Get Healthy. Get Smart.” appeared on banners, posters, window clings and other point-of-sale items.

Buzz Monkeys also developed a sales kit for the YMCA to give to managers and appropriate staff with information on how to manage the raffle at the branch level. The monkeys team also proposed that the smart® car travel to each branch throughout the summer to help push raffle ticket sales. Buzz Monkeys also created five traveling photo displays of the smart® car, which allowed kids at YMCA summer camps and gym patrons to “picture” themselves driving the car.

Through the smart® car promotion, the YMCA raised more than $30,000 for the Strong Kids Campaign.
