Managing a Media Relations Campaign and Employee Transition for a Global Healthcare Acquisition
When Devicor Medical Products, Inc. was close to completing its first major acquisition, MAMMOTOME, Buzz Monkeys played a key role sharing all public news of the deal and streamlining communications efforts for a broad and diverse cross-section of stakeholders.
To help set the stage with internal audiences, Buzz Monkeys assisted in the coordination of a global tour that took Devicor leadership to five countries in two weeks – China, Japan, Korea, Germany and Italy – to meet MAMMOTOME’s global teams and learn more about the opportunities and challenges in key markets.
At the same time, preparations for the public announcement and employee transition were in high gear. As with all mergers & acquisitions, the highly confidential nature of negotiations and timing required the development of several scenarios for Day One. Each had to take into account critical factors such as coordinating communications with the existing parent corporation; the flow and timing of all media announcements and public interviews; and proactively facilitating the transition of 300 global employees, about half of which were moving to a new U.S. headquarters.
Throughout the announcement and immediate transition, the extensive pre-planning and coordination played a key role in garnering local and national media coverage. In addition, employees were provided with clear direction, reassurance, and the tools needed for a smooth transition.
